The WPAPP study is a federally funded study on study to determine the efficacy of the Web-App based Lifestyle Physical Activity Promotion Program in improving depressive symptom experience of midlife Korean American women (WPAPP). The study is funded by the National Institute of the Nursing Research of National Institute of Health under Award Number R01NR020334. The study will be conducted from 04/06/2022 to 01/31/2027.
The purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy of the Web-App based Lifestyle Physical Activity Promotion Program in improving depressive symptom experience of midlife Korean American women (WPAPP).
The study consists of two groups of research participants: (a) 150 midlife Korean American women (MKAW) who use the WPAPP and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (b) 150 MKAW who do not use the WPAPP, but use the CDC website. Thus, a total of 300 research participants will be recruited for the study. Research participants are being recruited on the Internet, and data collection will be conducted using the Internet. Depending on the group that you are randomly assigned, you may or may not be asked to use the WPAPP.
You are being asked to participate in this study if you are midlife Korean-American women aged 40 to 65 years whose parents and grandparents are of Korean descent; who can read and write English or Korean; who currently reside in the United States; who are sedentary (without any disabilities preventing physical activity); who are online through computers or mobile devices; and who have experienced depressive symptoms during the past two weeks.
The long-term goals are to: (a) implement the program in various primary care settings; (b) examine the cost-effectiveness of the program; and (c) determine if the WPAPP will lead to long-term improved health outcomes.
